I sort of fell into medical sales back in the 1990’s after two failed attempts to become a Police Officer in Bristol; the town I grew up in.
Starting my sales career with a small family-owned business, I was soon approached by one of the world’s leading medical device companies, J&J, and relocated to Basingstoke, Hampshire.
I was always conventionally ‘successful’, but always strived for what I thought were bigger, better things, be it a higher level position, better company car or larger salary.
Throughout my 28 years in healthcare medical devices, I always wanted and pushed for more responsibility and more senior roles, expecting that the rewards would outweigh the stress and anxiety they caused. The trigger for me to re-evaluate those thoughts was during COVID. Like many others I found the lockdown forced me to re-evaluate my values and to re-address that balance between a high pressure, stressful sales position and leading people on my terms, and stop worrying about being an unconventional, authentic leader.
I’ve always had a unique, individual and authentic style but it took me years to embrace this and fully appreciate how it’s my distinct personality that has helped me achieve the successes I’ve had in both my work and personal life.
I have always had a passion working with different people with different character types and a knack of getting the most out of my teams getting them to perform above their own expectations. I am extremely curious in people and their actions. This curiosity is what lead me to coaching.
And I’m curious about what lead you to me…
